By Shaun Mitchell.
On the 21st and 22nd of April 2007 the slot it fraternity arrived at the North Staffs Scalextric racing club for the second round for the 2007 slot.it challenge championship.
Race day saw a fantastic turn out, a total of 58 senior, junior and guest entrees take to the 120ft sandtex North Staffs circuit. The 6 lain circuit had some thrilling races throughout the day, which really highlighted how competitive the slot it series is. Throughout the field of racers from the seniors to the juniors there was side by side racing, overtaking, phenomenal cornering speeds and of cause the odd crash that all made the day so exciting.
Race day saw Shaun Mitchell (North Staffs) race his Nissan R390 to his first ever event win in the slot it series, also taking the top A class driver award. Shaun was followed home by Nick Hirst (Pendle) with his Nissan R390, who put in a stunning drive to finish in second and was the top visiting driver for the event. With his best ever finish in the slot it challenge Rob Lyons (North Staffs) took 3rd spot and Top C class Driver. Chris Lyons (North Staffs) rounded off the top 4 taking the best B class driver award, Mark Probert (North Staffs) and Jim Brown (Preston) finished in 5th and 6th respectively and completed the A final.
In the Junior Category the rapid young ones were lead home by Tommy Duncan (North Staffs) he took the top spot in the junior A final in his Lancia LC2 followed by the top visiting Junior Luke Brandwood (Preston) and last years Junior Champion Nathaniel Rigg (Preston) in 3rd . There was a great showing form all the juniors on the day and the future of slot racing looks in safe and fast hands.
At North Staffs there was a strong showing of there own guest racers.
Of which James Lymer with his Porsche 962C took victory ahead of Tom Maddock
in 2nd in his Lancia LC2 and a very happy Neil Langham 3rd in his first
event of this type.
Also a special thank you must go out to Christine and Karen who kindly feed
and watered us all day long. I look forward to seeing you all in a few weeks
up in Scotland for Round 3 of the Slot It challenge at Hamilton.
