By Paul Charlton.
The start of the 2007 Slot.It Challenge, took place at a new venue to the
Calendar for the series, Pinewood Raceway in Berkshire. A total of forty
one senior entries, took to the tight and twisty 85 foot Sandtex track,
James Hunt (Pinewood) drove his Hooters Porsche 956 to his first ever event
win in the series. He was followed home by the similar Porsches of Paul
Charlton (Pinewood) and Steve Hills (Pinewood) to complete the top three.
In fourth place and top visitor was Shaun Mitchell (North Staffs) driving
his Nissan R390. The only other visiting driver to break into the top ten
was Neil Hirst (Pendle) last year’s title winner, also driving a Nissan
R390.
For most this was their first visit to Pinewood, so a 11th place finish
for Jim Brown (Preston) behind eight home drivers was a good result. Another
good showing was from Chris Lyons (North Staffs) after suffering a body
post snap on his Nissan R390, he drove form 36th place in the G Final, back
up to 17th place, winning two finals on his way and just missing out to
Steve Rigg (Preston) in the D Final.
In the Junior Category nine stars of the future took to the track. Toby Pawson (Pinewood) took the win with his Texaco Porsche 956, from the Nissans of Nathaniel Rigg (Preston) and Andy Tyler (Wolves) to complete the top three. All the juniors provided some good close racing though out the day.
With so many drivers electing to register for the series, only three Guest drivers took to the track at Pinewood. Taking top spot was Norman Facey (Pinewood) with a result that would have placed him 22nd in the senior standings, driving his Porsche 956 Hightail. In second place was another home driver, young Jamie Lauricella (Porsche 956) and in 3rd place was Sarah Holme from Wellingborough driving a Nissan R390.
Special thanks must go to Paul Baldock for his help in the Kitchen and
for providing the Pictures of the day.
I look forward to seeing you all again at the 2nd Round at North Staffs.
Thank you, Paul Charlton, Pinewood Raceway.
