40 Drivers travelled to Welsh Wales for the 3rd round of the UK Slot.it
Challenge over the weekend of 6th and 7th June.
Practice on the Saturday had a good turn out, with plenty wanting to get
their heads around the set up required for the monster track at Llantrisant,
whether to gear the car up for the long straight, or lower for the twists
and turns. A good mix of Mclarens, Jaguars and Audis where being used.
Even a couple of Porsches where out in force.
The customary meal on Saturday night proved a big hit as normal, plenty
of light hearted banter, plus some tails of woe for others, still struggling
to work out how to attack the track next day.

35 seniors and 5 juniors lined up, Scrutineering went without any hiccups
and not even any filed fenders this year. The heats ran smoothly through
the day, both classes had very tight battles, Nic Hirst, Phil Field and
Shaun Mitchell leading the way in the seniors, Shaun coming out on top
after all the heats, from 2 laps to Nic then only 2 foot to Phil Field
!!
In the juniors Lewis Gough led the way, but was closely followed by Toby
Pawson all day, with Elliott Alcock and Bobby Flores, close together in
the battle for 3rd and 4th.
So onto the Finals. In the Juniors Lewis Gough led home Toby Pawson for
a great finish, with Elliott Alcock finishing 3rd from Bobby Flores and
James Lyons.
In the seniors a very close B Final saw home driver Craig Jones win to
gain the outside Black Lane for the A Final.
The A final proved to be one of the best I’ve seen in a long time, an
early off for Nic saw him claw his way back up though the field, but out
in front Phil Field and Shaun Mitchell where having a great battle for
the lead, both leading numerous times in the final, Phil having the edge
on handling, Shaun a little more straight line speed. In the end, Shaun
managed to hold on to take the win by 20 foot, from Phil, with Nic only
a few feet behind in 3rd. 4th place went to Simon Scott, only 1 foot in
front of Lee Andrews in 5th. Home boy Craig still had a great run to 6th.
Next round is at Pendle, on the old Preston track (now backwards), in the new Pendle building. Please check on the Slot.it Challenge UK web site for details and for further results from this round. Look forward to seeing you all there.
